Please introduce yourself and your book(s)!
I’m Patricia Lynne and I write young adult books that usually have some sort of paranormal creature or sci-fi creature. You can expect vampires to show up and not be afraid to bite. I also write New Adult Urban Fantasy and Sci-Fi under Patricia Josephine.
What is/are the story(ies) behind your book(s)?
My first book, Being Human, was inspired by another book, Thirsty. The ending was so bleak that I kept thinking about it and what would happen next. Tommy popped up in my head and told me a story. Other books, like my upcoming book, Leaves of Fall, I can’t remember what inspired it.
What inspires/inspired your creativity?
All sorts of things. As I said in another question, other books have inspired me. Sometimes the characters just pop up in my head and say they want to tell me a story. The shower is also pretty inspirational for me. LOL!
How do you deal with creative block?

How do you deal with creative block?
I have many creative endeavors (knitting, jewelry making, painting) along with writing, so if I’ve never experienced complete creative block. If I’m stuck on one, I switch to another, and that usually gives me a boost that gets me back into what I was blocked on.
What are the biggest mistakes you can make in a book?
I once spelled my title wrong when uploading Snapshots to Smashwords. I was distraught and had a friend worried I was going to actually delete all my writing and hide under a rock for the rest of my life. (I had threatened that.)
Do you have tips on choosing titles and covers?
Titles are a mystery to me. LOL! I have a hard time figuring out what to title my stories. Sometimes they don’t have an official title until they’re almost ready to be published. I’ve even crowdsourced ideas for titles when I’ve been utterly stumped.
How do bad reviews and negative feedback affect you and how do you deal with them?
I actually don’t read any reviews. Good or bad, they usually derail me for the day. I dwell too much or am too stoked by a good review to focus. I leave the reviews for the readers since they are a tool to help them decide if a book is a good fit for them or not.
How has your creation process improved over time?
I’ve gotten better if figuring out the story BEFORE I start writing. I have a lot of unfinished stories because I got an idea for a character and went from there and then stalled when I had no plot. I still panster my way through many stories, but now I’ll spend some time thinking about it and figuring out more details before writing.
Do you tend towards personal satisfaction or aim to serve your readers? Do you balance the two and how?
Honestly, I don’t think about that much. I’m just looking to write a fun story that allows anyone who reads it to escape the real world for a little while.
What are your plans for future books?
I barely know what my plans are for the day, let alone the future. In my experience, life likes to butt its head in when you’ve made plans and derail everything. I’ll make goals for the year, but leave them flexible enough that if a problem arises, I will be able to handle it.
Tell us some quirky facts about yourself
I enjoy reading about serial killers in my spare time, which means I know I’m Ted Bundy’s preferred victim: a woman with long brown hair that’s parted down the middle. (That was an unnerving thing to learn.) I have a slight Doctor Who obsession in that I have a bunch of sonic screwdrivers and the 12th Doctor’s coat. I’ve spent over 200 hours playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I’ve killed many cacti because I suck at keeping plants alive.
About the Author
Patricia Lynne never set out to become a writer. In fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was all about art. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head. That was the start of it and she hasn’t regretted a moment.
Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow, and an obsession with Doctor Who.
